How much is too much screen time?

Kids are at home a lot more and most likely on their devices more during this time of social distancing. It’s good to still put limits on screen time and know the difference between high and low-quality media usage.

A 2016 report found that teens spend about 9 hours each day interacting with media for entertainment. This doesn’t include any time spent utilizing technology for school purposes.

The same 2016 report discovered that kids between the ages of 5 and 8 spend about 6 hours per day interacting with media, and kids ages 2-5 spend an average of 32 hours per week in front of a screen of some sort.

You cross into the realm of too much screen time when it is negatively impacting a child’s basic needs. Here are some helpful guidelines to follow in regards to screen time.
