Bike Safety!

Happy family wearing helmets on a bicycle ride at the park together , focus on son

It’s summer! Get outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather with your family by taking a bike ride. It’s a great way to spend quality family time together and exercise. But, before you pull your bike out the garage, let’s talk about bike safety!

Head Gear

One of the most common bicycle injuries are head injuries. It’s important that you wear a bike helmet every time you ride your bike, even if it’s just for a short ride. Helmets protect your face, head, and brain from injury in case you fall. Your helmet should fit you properly: not too big and not too small. Make sure the straps are fastened so that the helmet does not fall off when you need it most!

Be Seen!

Remember that you’re not the only one on the road, wearing bright colors and having reflectors on your bike can help others see you. Making yourself visible to others will help keep you safe and prevent accidents. Daytime is the safest time to ride your bike, so try to avoid riding your bike at night.

Hand Signals

Hand signals act as turn signals for you bike. These signals let cars know what you plan to do next, so they don’t accidentally run into you. Below are hand singles that you can use on your next bike ride!
