The holiday season is full of family, love, and cheer. However, along with all of the season’s greetings come the season’s temptations! There are plenty of ways that you can enjoy the holidays, without letting the holidays get the best of you. Below are our top 5 tips to help you have a healthy holiday season!

Be Prepared When Traveling

If you’re going on a road trip, pack healthy snacks with you in a backpack or cooler. That way you don’t have to rely on fast food.

Airports also allow you to bring your snacks with you on the plane (just not beverages). Things like sliced up fruit and vegetables, string cheese, hard boiled eggs, and raw nuts all travel well and are easy to pack.

*Tip: Bring an empty water bottle with you through TSA and fill it up after you cross security.

Don’t Skip Your Workout

The holidays can be a busy time for everyone. But it’s important to stay committed to your workout. Keeping your body moving is a great way to encourage yourself to make healthier choices throughout the day.

Enjoy One Plate

The best thing you can do for yourself when sitting down to a large family feast is to have a strategy. Plan on enjoying one plate of food with all of your favorites and stick to the plan.  Be mindful and enjoy the food but don’t over eat. You wouldn’t sit down and have three plates of food on a regular night, so let’s not overdo it on the holidays.

Holiday Parties

Make sure to eat a healthy meal before the party, that way you’re not starving when you get there and eat more than you normally would.

If you’re worried there isn’t going to be a healthy option for you, bring your dish. That way you know there will be at least one thing there that you feel good about eating.

At the end of the day, it’s the holidays, and you should enjoy yourself. Go ahead and have the glass of wine or dessert, just make sure you don’t allow it to derail all of your hard work.

Happy Holidays!
