Childhood Obesity Prevention Education - Alimenta tu Salud
Project Summary
Through a variety of grants, parents learn about proper nutrition for their children in general presentations and in a more extensive 5-session program. The classes include healthy eating and cooking practices, effects of teasing, bullying, and name-calling on the child's self esteem and body image; how to nurture the child's self-esteem, and the importance of physical activity. Behavior modification and skills development targeting lifestyle habits that contribute to weight gain are discussed in a culturally appropriate and non-judgmental fashion. Parents learn about the importance of physical activity and their children (6-14 years old) may participate in activity classes.
